lyrics

On a cold December morning in 1917
Two ships collided in the Halifax harbor
One of which was carrying 2600 tons of explosives
One square mile of the city of Halifax was left in rubble
In a crimson ball of rolling flames
1963 people were killed
9000 injured
And 199 …were left blind

The smoke bellows up to the sky
Women and children are left blind
The whaler’s battle with the blaze
The city is covered in a haze
Shops and factories in piles
The destruction stretches out for miles
Bodies lined across the docks
Sailors climbing over them like rocks

Our town will never be the same
All our hopes and dreams are up in flames
Where do we turn to now?
Our churches, schools our town
Are slowly burning down to the ground

The smoke bellows up to the sky
Women and children are left blind
The whaler’s battle with the blaze
The city is covered in a haze
Shops and factories in piles
The destruction stretches out for miles
Bodies lined across the docks
Sailors climbing over them like rocks

Our town will never be the same
Hear the screams of a mothers pain
Her only son is drown
The ship is going down
Left with the smell of death of her town

Where do we go from here +4
